Summer Food and More at the Richard Onslow

2nd August 2010: As The Richard Onslow approaches its 6 month birthday great food and drink are not the only thing headlining the menu this Summer. The pub, which is fast becoming the social hub of Cranleigh, has launched a series of ‘Dinner and a Movie’ nights and for those meat lovers amongst us Tuesday is now a regular steak night.

The beautiful high ceilinged dining room is the perfect setting to enjoy a Sunday evening meal and then sit back and relax in front of a classic on the big screen. Movies shown so far include Bullitt, Easy Rider and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. In store for the coming months are Blazing Saddles & Alfie.

Steak nights on a Tuesday are also now a regular fixture in The Richard Onslow social calendar. Every Tuesday visitors can enjoy awesome cuts from award winning butcher Aubrey Allen, from tender bavettes to a juicy chateaubriand on a board for two to share. All stakes come with a variety of homemade sides and sauces.

The seasonal menu itself also uses as much home-grown and local produce as possible with free-range chicken, pork and eggs, and 28 day dry-aged Aberdeenshire beef, from suppliers that the team know and trust. The Richard Onslow menu comprises traditional pub classics along with a few more sophisticated options. There are always daily specials on the board for starters and mains, and an irresistible selection of desserts.

For Summer, there’s chicken and summer vegetable terrine with apricot chutney, pan-fried sea bass with fennel and apple coleslaw and a summer leaf salad, along with pub favourites such as sausage and mash, moules marinières, fish cakes and steak.

Several dishes come in starter and main course sizes, so you can mix and match or share with friends. Why not try the courgette and sun-dried tomato risotto with honey roast ham or the summer ratatouille pancakes with a creamy goats cheese sauce.

Breakfast is served between 9 and 11am with a hearty full English, classic bacon or sausage sandwiches or lighter options like poached eggs on toast. Freshly made sandwiches are available all day and there’s an express lunch if you’re in a hurry, having a quick break from shopping or need to get back to work.

Richard Onslow deli boards are ideal for starters, to share over a bottle of wine or simply if you’re peckish. Take your pick from a tempting list of cheese, charcuterie, antipasti, fish and fresh crudités and fruit, or let us pick a selection for you. Each comes with a generous helping of rustic bread and chutney.

The pub’s menus change with the seasons and there’s always something new and exciting to try. Why not book a table in our smart new eatery, pull up a stool at the bar or sit outside and watch the world go by? You can even book the lovely new private dining room for dinner parties, special occasions and meetings.
